Read an Excerpt from the Newly Released Anni Dewani: A Father’s Story (Plus: Video)

Anni Dewani: A Father's Story Read an excerpt from Anni Dewani: A Father’s Story, as well as some videos of Anni’s family, on the Daily Mail.

Anni Dewani: A Father’s Story is the story of Anni’s life from childhood through to her death and the trial of her husband Shrien Dewani in Cape Town, told from the perspective of her father, Vinod Hindocha, to journalist Shekhar Bhatia. It was published by Mirror Books in the UK and Zebra Press recently acquired the South African rights.

In this excerpt, Hindocha shares how he dealt with the more sordid details of Dewani’s trial.

On the day of the judge’s verdict I stared long and hard at him, the judge’s droning voice fading into the background, and thought this is the man they say murdered my daughter.

This is the man who left his wife in her hour of need. This man cheated on her with gay prostitutes.

This man went to the shopping mall to buy a new suit instead of accompanying me to the morgue to see Anni’s body. This man is a terrible person. Why did he come into our lives?

Shrien was about to walk free with so many questions remaining. I was dazed and the room was beginning to spin as once again trars followed their regular route down my face.

Then, the judge gave her final, definitive decision ‘not guilty’.

If I had not been sitting down, my legs would have buckled and I would have fallen to the floor.
